Frequently Asked Questions

What aluminum tanks does AlumiTank make for Ford and Sterling?

We offer cylindrical, rectangular, and D-shape tanks. Ford cylindrical diameters include 20", 24", 24.25", and 29"; Sterling cylindrical diameters include 23", 24", and 25". Ford rectangular sizes include 13"x20", 14"x25", 18.25"x22", and 22.25"x22", and D-shape sizes include 16"x25" and 20"x25.5". Lengths run up to 90" weld-to-weld.

How are Sterling cylindrical tanks plumbed?

Sterling cylindrical tanks mirror the Freightliner design, using a high-level crossover with a 3/8" NPT return tube toward the front and a 1/2" NPT draw tube toward the rear.

How are Ford rectangular and D-shape tanks plumbed?

Ford rectangular and D-shape tanks use the same manifold as our International tanks: a 1/2" NPT draw, a 3/8" NPT return, a 1/2" NPT vent, and a 5-hole SAE sending unit, with welded-in tubes. Ford D-shape tanks also add a 3" or 4" ID fill neck and two 1/2" NPT drain/crossover flanges in the end caps.

Why are Ford and Sterling grouped together?

They share design characteristics with other chassis we build for — Sterling cylindricals follow the Freightliner pattern, and Ford rectangular and D-shape tanks use the same manifold as International. Grouping them keeps the fitment straightforward.

What finishes are available for Ford and Sterling tanks?

Polished is available on cylindrical tanks, and Milgrade is available across all shapes.
